Roberta "Betty" G. Ziegenhorn ELIZA, Illinois--Roberta "Betty" G. Ziegenhorn, age 84, of Eliza, Illinois, died on Thursday, February 16, 2012, in Eliza Township. Graveside Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 21, 2012, at the Drury/Reynolds Cemetery, Rock Island County. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the Eliza Community Church or St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Fippinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. "Betty" was born on November 2, 1927, in Unionville, Missouri, the daughter of Claud and Sarah Jackson Smith. She graduated from Joy High School and Marycrest College with a degree in Education. She married Russell Ziegenhorn on October 6, 1946. He preceded her in death in 1972. Betty was employed as an elementary/middle school teacher at the Eliza Creek School. After teaching, Betty worked as a homemaker and farm wife. She and her son, Randy would later operate Ziegenhorn Seeds and the family farm. She was a member of the Eliza Community Church, Eliza Community Church Ladies Aid and the Eliza Lions Club. Survivors include two grandchildren, Sarah Ziegenhorn of Washington, D.C. and Peter Ziegenhorn of Iowa City; several nieces (and their families): Connie and John Arco, Dorothy Horacek, Bonnie and Dale Moss, Delores Pape and Nancy Woodward; special friends: Shirley Ball, Matt and Sue Frieden, Mike, Shannon and Allison Ziegenhorn. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Randy Ziegenhorn; four brothers, Hobart, Paul, Wayne, and her twin, Robert Smith; one sister, Vesta Woodward; and nephews, David Smith and George Woodward.
