Pierre resident Betty A. Johnson, 88, passed away Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012 at Odyssey Hospice in San Antonio, Texas. Betty was born Nov. 8, 1923, in Mount Union, Iowa, to Bert and Eva Dohrman, as a sister to one younger brother, Wayne Dohrman, and two older stepbrothers, Dale Dohrman and Gerald Barker. On May 19, 1946, she married Morris D. Johnson of Winfield, Iowa, and they remained married for 27 years.
Betty received a B.S. degree in education from Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, in 1945, and held several teaching positions in Iowa, Missouri, and South Dakota for several years thereafter. In her later years, she held positions with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service in Pierre, and Lakewood, Colo. as a reality clerk and administrative assistant.
Betty was the loving mother of two surviving sons, Dennis and Gayle Johnson of Bismarck, N.D., and Erik and Sudsawat "Jim" Johnson of San Antonio, Texas. She also leaves behind five beloved grandchildren, Drew, Anna and Jenna Johnson of Pierre, and Blake and Beth Johnson of Austin, Texas.
Betty will be laid to rest near her birthplace in Mount Union, Iowa, at a pending ceremony attended by her immediate family, per her wishes.
