Alan Amitin, 61, died Oct. 10 after a 13-month long battle with pancreatic cancer, at his home in Glendale.  Alan was born in Burbank on Dec. 30, 1947 to Renee and Cyril Amitin.  Raised in Sunland, he went to UC Berkeley for undergrad and Cal Western for law school.  In 1976, he took over the Montrose General Store, later BillyÂ's, and owned and ran the business until 2006. An avid skier and golfer, Alan was often found on the black diamond slopes in Utah, Colorado and Canada in the winter and on the courses around California and Los Angeles in the summer--with a single-digit handicap.  Also a devoted Dodger fan and season ticket holder, he often wrote letters to the editor at the LA Times. In game 5 of the 1985 NLCS, he believed Tommy Lasorda made the right decision in having Tom Niedenfuer pitch to Jack Clark in the top of the ninth inning and still believed that well after ClarkÂ's game-winning home run.  Known for his congenial attitude and Â"warmnessÂ" that his business and personal relationships thrived on, he will be missed.
